Derby Movie Makers are an enthusiastic group of passionate amateur filmmakers who share a love for the art of cinema. Our club was founded some 50 years ago and has been active ever since. We welcome members of all ages and backgrounds who are interested in learning about film making, sharing their work, and collaborating with others.

From 8mm cine film formats, analogue & digital video, right through to current high definition formats, our members have enjoyed filmmaking at all levels.

We have produced a number of short films, documentaries, and other projects over the years, and we are always looking for new and exciting ways to explore the medium of film. Our members come from a variety of backgrounds and skill levels, but we all share a love for the art of cinema.

We meet regularly at the Derby Homes community room in Acorn Close, Shelton Lock, and visitors and new members are always welcome. Please see our programme for further details.

As well as hosting our own club competitions, the club and its members regularly enter films into regional, national and international competitions and film festivals, and have enjoyed much success.

The club is affiliated to the IAC - Film and Video Institute. It also forms part of Midland Movie Makers, a group of 6 clubs within our region.

At Derby Movie Makers, we believe that film making is a collaborative art form. We encourage our members to work together, share ideas, and collaborate on projects. Whether you are an experienced filmmaker or just starting out, we welcome you to join our community.

Our club meets regularly to discuss film making techniques, share our work, and plan new projects. We also organize film screenings, workshops, and other events throughout the year. Our goal is to create a supportive and inclusive community where everyone can learn, grow, and express themselves through the art of cinema.

Most camcorders are left in drawers and cupboards soon after purchase, emerging only for the occasional holiday or birthday party. Even when they are used, the footage recorded is usually shaky and tedious, and users rarely consider editing it into something enjoyable. We can help you to shoot and edit creatively, and help provide you with inspiration for your own projects.

Online video services such as YouTube are great, but they cannot beat projection onto a big screen. Come and see your masterpieces as they were meant to be viewed, and benefit from the praise, encouragement and constructive criticism of fellow videomakers and enthusiasts. Enter your films into our competitions, and benefit from the experience of our judges.

No camcorder? No problem! You don't need a camcorder to be a great filmmaker. Get involved with our in-house productions. Got a talent for acting, directing, editing or scriptwriting? We'd love to hear from you. Similarly, if you have an idea for a project then run it by us.

Local groups - do you have a story that needs to be told? Let us know, and we may be able to put it into moving pictures.
